Where is Lake Chapala, Mexico?
Lake Chapala and the village of Ajijic is located in the state
of Jalisco is only 35 minutes from Guadalajara International
Airport and 55 minutes to Guadalajara's historic district and
shopping areas.
There are two main municipalities on the north shore of Lake
Chapala, akin to county governments in the U.S. and those are
Chapala, and Jocotepec. The village of Ajijic, is within the
municipality of Chapala. Population estimates vary but it is
estimated that there are about 65,000 residents living in the
Chapala-Ajijic area, many of them are Americans and
Canadians.

With over 6,320 miles of coastline and it’s warm year round
weather it is no surprise that Mexico is a famous destination
for world class beach resorts.
Along the Pacific Ocean from south to north are
Acapulco, Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Baja’s
Cabo San Lucas. Cancun and Cozmel are located on the eastern
tip Mexico on the Caribbean Sea in the Gulf of Mexico.

On the northern shore of Lake Chapala, from east to west are

As we have discussed above, the village of Ajijic is located
within the southern region of the state of Jalisco and is forty
five kilometers (28 miles) south and slightly east of
Guadalajara. Guadalajara is Mexico’s second largest city after
Mexico City and just ahead of the northern industrial city of
Monterrey in terms of population.
How do I get to Ajijic and Lake Chapala?
Well the good news is that it is relatively easy.
Many Major US airlines offer direct non-stop flights to
Guadalajara’s International airport.
Flying from Los Angeles LAX Airport it’s only three hours,
Chicago’s O'Hare is slightly over three and a half hours and
Dallas Fort Worth Airport, DFW in Texas is a two and a half
hour airplane ride.
