Home Rentals in Ajijic Mexico,
What You Need to Know
The task of making a good decision when it comes to
Home Rentals in Ajijic
Mexico is well worth educating yourself about
the do’s and don’ts.
Some people come to Mexico to see if retirement in Ajijic is for them.
Others visit to leave frigid winters or hot and sweaty summers
behind. Because of Ajijic's great
weather for retirees, visitors arrive throughout the
year.
But one thing they all have in common is
that they want quality Ajijic Lodging
that will provide for an enjoyable stay in colonial
Mexico.
Just recently, I met a woman, Ginger, who had with her
husband had rented an Ajijic casa for the winter
season and had just arrived to find the home was a
shocking disappointment.
Here is her Ajijic Travel
story:
When Ginger and her husband decided to spend the winter
season in Ajijic she started asking friends if they knew anyone
living here. They had normally spent the winters in San
Miguel de Allende, Mexico, but, the higher altitude and colder
weather had become a health issue for her husband.
Much to this Ginger’s surprise one of her friends Sara lives
full time in Ajijic-Chapala, Mexico. Sara and her husband
agreed to help find a nice Ajijic rental home for the winter
high season.
Sounded like an ideal way to find the perfect answer to the
problem finding a good rental. Get help from someone who
lives there and will actually go see the rental home. And
that is exactly what happened. A Lake Chapala rental home
was found, not to worry.
But wait, unfortunately, there is more to this story.
Sara did indeed tour the home for rent and from the surface it
looked great. However, she made many assumptions that in
reality were not correct.
Sara took for granted that the Ajijic Rental house would be
cleaned and ready for the new tenants. She expected there
would be clean linens on the bed and clean towels in the
bathroom. She was under the impression the kitchen would
be clean and ready for the tenants. And, the basic small
appliances like a coffee maker would be provided in this
supposedly fully equipped kitchen. She presumed there
would be pots pans, dishes, flatware and glassware. Sara
was certain window treatment would be in the bedrooms for
privacy. And for sure the refrigerator would be turned on
and working.
When Sara viewed the Ajijic property, the
property management agent assured her that the property
would be in move in condition when the couple arrived on
that Tuesday. But evidently there was a
misunderstanding of the meaning of “ready for the new
renters to move in”.
When this Ginger and her husband arrived all excited to see
their rental home, reality set in. The, beds were not made and
still had the dirty linens on them. The kitchen was dirty
and the dishwasher was too dirty to even put dishes in it for
washing. But that was not the worst of the problem since
there were no dishes, pots, pans, glassware or flatware to
wash. There were just a few paper plates and plastic cups
provided in this “fully furnished and equipped” Ajijic
rental.
Sound like your worst nightmare? I could go on but I
won’t. I’m sure you get the picture.
How can you avoid this situation?
Speak directly to the owner of the property in Mexico not
the rental agent when inquiring about rentals in Ajijic.
Make sure the owner of the property lives in this area full
time, manages her property and will be your contact during the
time of your visit.
Ask the detailed questions, how many dishes, pots, pans,
etc. Is there a coffee maker? What other small
appliances are included?
Will the beds be made with clean linens? Will
everything in the house be thoroughly cleaned before your
arrival?
Tell the owner in detail exactly what your expectations are
based on your conversation with her.
Ask the what if questions. What if the refrigerator
stops working in the rental, will it be replaced or fixed in a
timely manner? Who will be responsible for the cost of
replacement or repair?
These are just a few examples of the type of conversation
and questions you will want to ask to avoid a big
disappointment.
The best advice I can give you is, when you are looking for
Home Rentals in Ajijic Mexico, do not take anything for
granted.
Ask about everything you think would be a normal part of the
rental property where you are from. Don’t be afraid to
ask questions, at the end of the day you will be glad you
did.
