Celebrate New Years in Ajijic Mexico
We are about ready to celebrate New Years in Ajijic,
Mexico.
Our motto is, while living in Lake Chapala, do
what the Mexicans do. Celebrate each and every holiday
with enthusiasm and enjoy the traditions that come with that
specific holiday.
A New Years Eve tradition from Spain that is still observed
in many parts of Latin America is the eating of 12 grapes - one
with each stroke of the chiming church bell at midnight.
Make a wish with each grape you eat. It is said that the
good luck this tradition brings, will manifest that wish into
the coming year. Warning: Be careful what you wish
for when making your New Year resolution!
Want to get lucky in love? Wear red underwear.
Want financial success, yellow is the color to wear. Want
to travel next year? Get out your luggage and walk
around the block with it. There are many more
superstitions and traditions for getting all you want in the
next year, but you get the picture.
Feliz Ano Nuevo in Spanish means the Happy New Year and is
welcomed with great gusto in Mexican towns, cities and
villages. Celebrations and events continuing until dawn
on the next day include, live music, dancing, fine food and of
course incredibly noisy fireworks displays.
For example, the plaza in the village of Ajijic will be at
the heart of this celebration. Packed with Ajijicans,
from grandparents to newborn babies and every age in between.
Lots of traditional food and drink, including "Ponche," a hot
fruit punch. Live music groups, all playing at the
same time in different spots on the plaza. And, of course
dancing in the streets and Tequila, the favorite drink in
Mexico, flows aplenty on this special night. Oh yes, the
fireworks displays will be taking place at midnight.
The Ajijic restaurants in the village each have special
menu's and music planned for those dining and all promise to
party into the wee hours of the morning.
This New Year's Eve, we will be joining our friends at a
private house party. Starting around 9 PM there
will be a gourmet delight of all kinds of foods. Each of
us is bringing a special dish to add to the celebration.
The Champaign will flow at midnight and we will all take part
in the 12 grape tradition. After midnight some of us who
like to dance will continue to party and join the night life
scene in Ajijic as we welcome in a healthy and happy "Ano
Nuevo!"
Make your Ajijic travel
and vacation plans now to spend New Years in Ajijic Mexico
and join in this amazing celebration south of the border in old
Mexico.
